Prebiotics for Immunity
· By Dara Berger
Most of us know that it's not all about masks and gloves that we need to protect ourselves from infections. The most important thing is having a well functioning immune system. Most everybody has heard about the importance of probiotics — the beneficial bacteria that live in our gut. But fewer people know about prebiotics, which are the food that feeds those good bacteria.
Prebiotics are found in high-fiber foods like garlic, onions, leeks, asparagus, bananas, and oats. When you feed your good gut bacteria well, they thrive and help keep your immune system strong.
Some easy ways to add more prebiotics to your diet:
- Add raw garlic to salad dressings or dips - Eat a banana as a snack - Include asparagus or leeks in your dinner a few times a week - Try overnight oats for breakfast
A healthy gut is the foundation of a healthy immune system. Start feeding yours today!
